Another day, another post, another new series; welcome to the first in another new feature on La Bella, In the Spotlight. In this series I will be focusing on brands, be that skincare, beauty, lifestyle or wellbeing, and looking at what they have to offer on a whole, from their ranges to their individual ‘stories’ and concepts. Knowing and trusting in a brand makes navigating the skincare and beauty landscape a somewhat easier task, and while I am always open to trying and testing new products and brands, I also have huge respect for brands who have worked hard to establish their name and quality products.
This week I am looking at a French skincare brand that takes it’s name from a term used to quantify the quality of the taste of wine: Caudalie Paris. Caudalie is a new brand for me personally and the first new range that I have tried out this year, and so it seemed only fitting that I make them the focus of the first post in this series.
To find out more about this gorgeous brand, what’s in their [not so] secret skin loving ingredients and which products to put on your wishlist, keep reading…
What does Caudalie mean?
A Caudalie is a term used when measuring the quality of wine based on how long the taste stays on the palette, every second the flavour remains this is one Caudalie.
Caudalie Paris takes on this name due to the fact that their active ingredients are extracted from grapes and their vines. The brand was started in Bordeaux, France on the home vineyards of it’s founders Mathilde and Bertrand, and now has grown into an international brand and spa chain.
The treasures of the vine…
According to Mathilde, the grape vine is a treasure trove of active ingredients that provide amazing benefits and properties for the skin.
Grape waters contain a whole host of soothing and hydrating active ingredients, while extracts from the grape seeds contain numerous anti-oxidants. The sap of the grape vines helps treat dark spots, while the thicker grape vine stalks contain a special ingredient that gives their skincare firming anti-ageing properties and boost the natural production of hayluronic acid in the skin.
Instant detox mask…
Following the over-indulging of the Christmas period, an instant detox was just what my skin needed. This mask uses natural clay and botanical extracts to draw out impurities and toxins from the skin, tighten pores and smooth out imperfections; it smells divine thanks to the combination of lavender, parsley and chamomile and feels instantly soothing when applied to the skin.
Not only does this mask provide an instant detoxing effect, it is a fast and effective treatment too. While we all love to apply our favourite face masks before a long soak in the bath tub, that isn’t always possible. Sometimes you need a mask that you know will take effect within five minutes, because you literally only have five minutes to spare but your skin needs something a little extra.
I like to apply this mask in the morning or sometimes before bed, it dries in five minutes and washes off easily with a hot cloth to reveal softer skin. It’s a great little pick-me-up treatment on days that my skin is looking a little on the dull side; at the same time, thanks to the botanicals, it is really soothing and stress relieving when applied at the end of the day.
Sorbet for you face…
Caudalie’s Moisturising Sorbet is a product that I was familiar with, I had seen and heard people mentioning how much they loved this gel-cream moisturiser, so was curious to see what all the hype was.
This is one of those products that just feels so amazing on the skin every time you apply it; a lightweight cream that melts into a gel as you apply it and leaves your skin feeling soothed and refreshed thanks to the grape water and chamomile extracts. It is rich in anti-oxidants making it perfect for both day time and night time use.
The formula is somewhat of a cream/serum hybrid, all the hydration and comfort of a cream moisturiser with that instant infused feel that you get from a serum. I think this will become a favourite of mine very quickly, perfect for travel and I imagine it would feel amazing straight from the fridge after a day in the sun in the summer.
VineActiv for active lifestyles…
The VineActiv range from Caudalie is specifically designed for those who lead busy, stressful and active lifestyles; we all know the stresses and strains of daily life, combined with pollutants of city life can take their toll on our skin.
Banish dark circles with the Energizing and Soothing Eye Cream; this antioxidant rich eye cream quickly absorbs into the under eye skin providing an instant soothing effect and a visible effect on dark circles. I loved trying a sample of this powerful cream, and wouldn’t hesitate to purchase the full sized product when it runs out.
The 3-in-1 day moisturiser works to create a protective barrier on the skin in order to limit damage caused by pollutants and free radicals, an essential for urban dwellers or your next city getaway. The glow activating serum can be used both day and night; once again it is packed with antioxidants that help restore the skin, prevent signs of ageing and give you your glow back.
The VineActive range is simple, yet powerful; a great routine for travel lovers or city dwellers.
Why I will be trying more from Caudalie…
With regards to price-point, Caudalie is middle of the line, it’s simple more basic products are more reasonably priced while it’s pioneered ranges are little more expensive and understandably so. What I like about Caudalie from what I have tried so far is that the products do what they say they will; each product has natural, simple ingredients, specially tailored for specific skin needs and benefits and that’s what you get when you apply.
I like the message that Caudalie’s founder Mathilde is trying to create with this brand, sourcing something beautiful from what is otherwise something so simple, grapes. All the products that I tried were unbelievably refreshing, the same as the burst you get from biting in to a fresh grape in summertime and I love skincare that feels like a spa treatment in a bottle.
Caudalie is a brand well worth investing in if you ask me; you know that you are going to get exactly what it ‘says on the bottle’ when you purchase their products. I am excited to try more from Caudalie and also see what else this cutting edge brand is going to develop in the future.
