The Blazer Edit

The new season is in full swing and with it comes the excitement of discovering and experimenting with new style trends. After a very successful fashion week month, social media is buzzing with street style and trend analysis on who wore what and what to buy now for Autumn/Winter ’17. Maybe it’s just my growing obsession with style and fashion, but I feel like the fashion world has been on the up and up in the last few seasons, with each more exciting than the one before; this Summer saw some really wearable trends go from the runway to the highstreet and I feel like the AW17 trends will follow this ‘wearable’ trends path too.

There is plenty to dissect and mull over for the coming season from colour trends to textures, but today lets look at what is probably the most wearable and accessible trend of the season so far, something that you can easily integrate into your current closet and personal style and will stay there for a long time:

THE BLAZER

It’s not that the blazer is something new to fashion, or even something that hasn’t been around for a while, but this season it has made a big come back and went from being the piece that you keep in the back of your closet for either work, an interview, or something more formal to being the piece that goes with everything from casual looks to workwear. The blazer was the go-to cover up piece for many style influencers during fashion week; there are so many ways that you can interpret this trend and work it into your own personal style which is why I have a feeling that it’s going to be a very popular choice on the highstreet right into Spring.

HOW TO WEAR THE TREND

Forget feeling stuffy in a pantsuit, there are so many ways to have fun with how you wear this trend.

CO-ORDINATED

Looking back on Fashion Week month in February this year, the pantsuit was a feature of a lot of designer collections. The pantsuit doesn’t have to be only for work wear and it most certainly doesn’t have to be boring, in fact you don’t even have to own a pantsuit to pull off a co-ord look. Do like Amiee Song and pair blazer in a fun colour with a pair of trousers or leggings in the same (or very similar) shade. Block coloured looks are very in this season, look for pieces in pink, blue or red, all big colours for AW17. Dress up the look with a pair of heels or  sock boots, or play it down with a casual pair of trainers in a complimenting or contrasting shade.

CASUALS

Make your blazers your go to cover up choice for the season, perfect over jeans and a t-shirt for the ultimate laid back look. Go for over-sized fits or one size up from your normal size so that when the weather gets a bit cooler you can layer your blazers over knits or hoodies to keep warm but still look on trend.

PLAID & CHECK

How to take your blazer game to the next level? Invest in a blazer in the prints of the moment: check, plaid or houndstooth. Classic monochrome is very chic right now, be that shades of grey or neutral tones. Find your inner countryside lady and pair with a pair of leggings, a chunky knit and over the knee boots. Alternatively a check blazer looks great styled over causal looks or even date-night looks.

WINTER FLORALS

Winter florals are very big this season, so why not nail two trends in one by going for a floral printed blazer? The key to getting this trend right and avoid looking like your wearing your spring wardrobe in the middle of winter is to look for florals printed on dark colours. Burgundy or navy are good choices, both are trending colours for the season while also being very versatile and flattering shades.

VELVET CRUSH

Finally, one of my favourite trends this season is crushed velvet; this fabric looks great in pretty much everything, but a velvet blazer will take your outfit to a whole new level of lux and sophistication. Again, go for a trending colour such as midnight blue, navy or Burgundy.

Hi Eloise! Thanks so much! I’ve been trying to get more creative with how I present and layout my post lately so I’m really glad you like it! I love blazers too and I’m so glad that they’re such a trendy cover up this season as they are a piece that if you invest in a good one, will last you for years! Thanks for reading!
