Fashion Week Roundup: The Paris Edit (Part 2)

It’s time to close the book on another Fashion Week month, and what a month it was. Kicking off in New York we got a little taster of how the fashion influencers are wearing the trends of AW17, while dipping our toes into the wonderful world of Spring/Summer fashion. On to London and we saw some popular themes beginning to rise between designers and collections; lilac and purple stood out as prominent colours to watch for the coming season. In Milan we got a taste of old and new coming together with retro inspired collections and a 90’s supermodel reunion on the Versace runway. Finally, we arrived in Paris after a wild and wonderful week in Italy, only to be swooned by the stunning French fashion houses and their take on SS18.

So, what happened in Paris? What did the Parisians and the French bring to the table this Fashion Week month? If you missed Part 1 of my Paris Fashion Week review make sure to have a read to find out who wore what on the front row at PFW, and what the Parisian take on AW17 style was.

FEATHERS ARE BACK

It’s been a few seasons since feathers featured on the runways, but they were back at PFW and chic as ever. Nina Ricci added feathers to head pieces, scaves and hems and even featured a flapper style dress with feathering instead of the classic tassels, all in beautiful muted pastel tones that were elegant and feminine. Saint Laurent‘s take on feathering was a bit bolder and more statement, with feathered knee high boots and a dress that wouldn’t look out of place in a production of Swan Lake.

TASSELS

From feathering to tassels; Elie Saab featured dresses and skirts finished with jewel toned tassels that while very rock inspired still remained chic somewhat elegant. Nina Ricci also featured tassled dresses among the feathered pieces from the collection and Céline made tassling look sosphicated.

PEEK-A-BOO FABRICS

It seems that sheer fabrics and even see-through fabrics are going to be a popular choice for SS18; Chanel styled their classic tweed looks with see through raincoats, hats and knee high boots. Sheer tulle fabrics and peek-a-boo lace pieces featured in many collections including Miu Miu and Loewe; layering sheer dresses over block coloured body suits looks to be a trend that will be around a lot next season.

PRETTY & GIRLY

SS18 is already shaping out to be a magical season with fashion taking a step back into more feminine cuts and silhouettes. Not only were Dior‘s current evening gowns for AW17 the talk of the week, but their pieces for next season we mesmerising with fun colours and prints, plenty of polka dots, florals and patterns that will call out to your inner girly-girl. Valentino, as always, was a stunning collection from start to finish; floral prints and pieces were mixed with sequins and sheer pastel fabrics and their multicoloured polka dot pieces were a fun fresh twist in the classic print.

COVER UP

Layering is always key during the transitional months between seasons and PFW had plenty to offer up in terms of coats and cover up inspiration for Spring 2018. Miu Miu featured plaid oversized coats in bold colours as well as faded leather double breasted coats similar to the style that featured on the Calvin Klein runway in New York earlier this season. Nina Ricci featured military style jackets (and hats) while Valentino styled their looks with sport jacket style pieces with plenty of pockets and zips on show.

HATS OFF!

From New York to Paris, one trend that has been very common between fashion weeks and fashion houses is that hats are making a huge come back for SS18. From the oversized straw sunhats on the Missoni runway in Milan, to the return of the currently very popular beret at the Dior show in Paris; hats are going to be big for Spring 2018.
