Fashion Week Roundup: The Paris Edit (Part 1)

Hello Paris, and hello Paris Fashion Week! Although at this stage I should really be saying ‘Au Revoir‘ as the fashion influencers pack up their monogrammed Louis Vuitton suitcases and the dust settles after yet another amazing Fashion Week month that came to an epic end in Paris.

The Eiffel Tower wasn’t the only thing sparkling in Paris during Fashion Week, the runways were flooded with glitter and sequins as were the streets as everyone wanted to shine both day and night. Although, some of the sparkle was a little enhanced, with the kirakira+ app being a big hit on Instagram Stories over the week to add some extra glitter and glow to videos; if you haven’t already tired it I highly recommend! As for the street style, you would imagine after New York, London and Milan we had seen it all, but all stops were pulled out for the final week of Fashion Week month and there was plenty to analyse and talk about with regards to AW17 trends.

Get ready for some serious autumn styling inspiration (I wouldn’t be surprised if your bank balance takes a bit of a hit after) as we look back on a week of chic Parisian street style for this AW17…

Remember that episode of Friends where everyone made fun of Ross for having leather pants? Well, flash forward to PFW 2017 and you wouldn’t be caught dead without a pair! Leather, vinyl, and latex look pants and skirts were all over the streets of Paris at Fashion Week; this trend is not for the faint hearted and requires a lot of confidence/sass to pull  off. Take a note from InTheFrow‘s Victoria McGrath and opt for a waxed look and subtler finish, that way you can dip your toe in this trend while not feeling out of your comfort zone.

Paris brings out the best in style, and every little detail mattered at Paris Fashion Week this month. From eyelash lace to delicate, yet sparkling jewellery, it was all in the finer details. Taking note of how you accessorise your outfit is what can take an everyday casual look to the next level, be that your jewellery or make-up. Another trend that was big in Paris last week was detailing on shoes; if you don’t have the budget to splash on a pair of embellished heels, try my mother’s tried and tested trick of attaching clip on earrings to an old pair of heels to give them a new look.

Back in February Dior stole the show at PFW with their deep blue and indigo toned collection; six months later and it still had it’s magic as it graced the streets of Paris for the first time this season. Midnight blue from head to toe looked chic, elegant and magical all at the same time as Dior reminded us that there is nothing unfashionable about channeling your inner princess… or wearing a beret with an evening gown for that matter.

Low pony tails finished with headscarves or ribbons tied in a bow were not an uncommon site on the front row of PFW. This is an effortless yet chic hairstyle that looks laid-back and professional all at once. The best thing about this hairstyle trend? It’s super easy (and inexpensive) to recreate; add a few loose curls to the ends of your hair, then pull back into a messy low ponytail and finish with a printed headscarf tied in a loose bow.

There have been a lot of big colour trends for AW17 since Fashion Week month kicked off in New York at the start of September, so it was refreshing to see some paired back looks and neutral colour palettes on the streets of Paris during PFW. Nudes never go out of style, no matter what the season; go for a beige oversized jumper with some loose-fitting paper-bag trousers or culottes as seen above on Aimee Song. Finish off the look with the boot of the season, the sock book, in a nude tone to bring everything together an create the ultimate block colour look.

On the flip-side to the neutral colour palettes, it was once again hard not to notice the flashes of red that were styled into so many looks at PFW. From red details, shoes and boots, to leather look trousers and full-length red coats. This is a gorgeous colour for this time of year, and the only things better than a LBD is a LRD (little red dress); it’s romantic and timeless and the perfect excuse to wear some red lippie. Inject a bit of colour, romance and sex appeal into your outfits this AW17 by adding a splash of red where you can.

We have looked at a lot of the shoe trends of the season over the past few weeks from sock boots to knife boots; in Paris we saw more colour on the boot front with those sock boots being spotted in gorgeous jewel tones and velvet finishes. Victoria McGrath shared some great finds from this trend on InTheFrow earlier this week, with a pair of emerald green sock books (featured below) for under £50! I’ll have a pair in every colour please…

The weather was all over the place during PFW with the sun shining somedays, and miserably cold rain other days. This didn’t stop those style bloggers in their tracks though, with layering being the key to being ready for what ever the Paris weather threw at them. However in true Parisian chic style there were no frumpy layers, it was all very sophisticated; recreate this with flowing fabrics, feminine cuts and a floor length duster coat to finish as seen on Caroline Daur above.
