5 Longwear Lip Products that Actually Last

5 LONGWEAR LIP PRODUCTS THAT ACTUALLY LAST

Tried and tested from breakfast to dinner; here are the longwear lip products that lasted the test of time.

As you may well already know I have a bit of a shopping addiction when it comes to lip products, I can’t get enough of them. Lipsticks, liquid lips, matte, sheer; I have them all a plenty and then some! There is something about applying a really great lip colour, it’s like my secret confidence weapon, with it I can take on the world and everything the day throws at me. However sometimes, depending on what the day does throw at me, I may not have time to apply and re-apply my lip colour several times in order to keep it’s superpowers (and pigment) strong; so I need a product that is going to last as long as it possibly can before I need to re-apply it, maybe even one that lasts from breakfast to dinner, no reapplication necessary.

How many times have you purchased a beauty product that claimed to be longwearing, only to find that it wasn’t quite as tough as it ‘says on the tin’? I have fell victim to this many times myself, and so last month I decided to put my lip collection to the ultimate longwear challenge; each morning I would try out a different lip colour and test its wear by leaving it at home, that way I couldn’t be tempted to top it up during the day and would see how long it would truly last. Some products made it as far as my first morning coffee, others all the way to lunchtime, but only a few showed their resistance by hanging on until hometime. So, here they are, in ranking order, my tried and tested top 5 longwear lip products that actually last!

5.

Mac Retro Matte Lipstick

MAC’s Retro Matte formula is everything you would expect from a matte lip, highly pigmented and a dry matte. I love my Relentlessly Red lipstick, however the formula can be really drying on the lips and you really need to prime the lips before and apply a balm after you remove it. On the longwear side of things, my Retro Mattes made it past lunchtime; depending on the shade, this formula really acts as a stain and results in a slow fade of colour which last pretty well.

4.

NYX Full Throttle

I didn’t expect much in the line of longwear from the NYX Full Throttle lipsticks when I purchased one around Christmas; I love NYX liquid lip products and lipsticks, but their other products are not generally long wearing. The Full Throttle formula is an ultra matte, waterproof lipstick that sticks around. What you have to watch about this lip colour is that it tends to ‘chip’ away slowly rather than fade and you end up with just product left on the edges of your lips.

3.

MAC Liquid Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour

A step up from the lipsticks, MAC’s Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours are sublime; they go on beautifully, are intensely pigmented, dry to a soft matte finish and are not half as drying on the lips as the lipstick formula. They are also a step up on the longwear scale; the Retro Matte liquid lip really stains the lip, is resistant to general ‘wear and tear’ and kiss proof once dry. This one made it past lunch but had started to fade in the centre of the lips by dinnertime.

2.

Lime Crime Matte Velvetines

Lime Crime’s liquid lip colours are vegan and cruelty free beauty products, but don’t for a second think that means they aren’t effective products. A little warning, apply with cation, because when these liquid lipsticks dry they are not going any where for a long time and it’s going to take a lot of micellar water or some really good make-up wipes to get them off. Lime Crime lip colours lasted about 6-8 hours and left some of their competitor brands, such as Colourpop, in their dust on the longwear scale.

1.

Make-Up Revolution Retro Luxe Lip Kit

When Makeup Revolution released their Lip Kits they were all over Instagram and social media, and I thought, I want to see what all the hype is about. I haven’t tried a Kylie Lip Kit, so I don’t have that to compare to, however I can say that this product preforms beyond what you would expect from a drugstore product that only costs £6/€8. This is the first lip product that I have ever experienced to be ‘water-resistant’; while it dries to finish that appears matte it actually feels like it never fully dries on the lips, giving it a tacky or sticky texture that stops liquids (coffee in my case) from washing the product off. After I applied the liner and liquid lip in the morning it stayed put, I mean really stayed put; I was surprised when I check my reflection in the mirror at the end of the day to see that I would actually have to remove my lip colour because it was still there! I will definitely be putting in an online order for every shade of this product and look forward to trying some of their other formulas like the Metallics that look perfect for autumn/winter.
