Escape to the Connemara Mountains with Dephi Resort

Welcome to the west of Ireland; wild, beautiful and the perfect place to escape to relax and unwind.

It never ceases to surprise me how beautiful the Irish countryside really is; around every twist and turn there is something new to discover and as I recently discovered, in the west, the views will take your breath away.

Dephi Resort is located in the middle of the Connemara mountains, so isolated that if you didn’t know it was there, you might think you were lost. This beautiful hotel, which blends into it’s surroundings has surely earned it’s four star rating with it’s excellent spa, outstanding restaurant and to top it all off and outdoor and adventure centre offering everything from rock climbing walls and zip-lining to canoeing.

My family and I recently visited Delphi Resort to mark some big birthdays, and to take a step back from our busy lives to enjoy each other’s company. Here’s what I thought about our stay…

The Location

Delphi Resort is located in the Connemara countryside, overlooking hills, valleys and streams. Because of it’s rural location, the resort is surrounded by hillside walks and trails, perfect for taking some time to be with nature and clear your mind. Something that surprised us was the lack of phone reception in the resort, it’s rare nowadays to go somewhere that you don’t have signal, and while there was wifi available, it was really nice to switch off and not be stuck to our phones during our stay.

The Rooms

Delphi offer everything from a regular double room to a 2 bedroom suite. We stayed in 1 bedroom suites which were located off of the main building in a small courtyard with views overlooking the mountains and forests surrounding the resort. The rooms were very spacious, with plenty of room for a family. They had a luxurious feel with big beds, a large bath and double shower as well as a living space separate to the bedroom. You realised just how rurally located you were when you were met with signs on the doors reminding you to keep them locked unless you wanted to be sleeping with a Connemara lamb!

The Spa

After a busy and somewhat stressful start to 2017 I was looking forward to a spa break and Delphi’s Thermal Spa did not disappoint. The spa has both a steam room and sauna as well as a large jacuzzi, with floor to ceiling windows looking out on the beautiful surrounding scenery. The spa offers a range of treatments that can be booked online before you stay or at request when you arrive. I chose to try a back and neck massage, and was utterly relaxed and destressed by the end of it when I receive a smoothie to sip in the relaxation suite, which also offered up fruit, herbal teas and glorious views. The spa also offers seaweed baths which are highly praised and recommended, however I didn’t get to try one of these; what I would say is that a trip to the thermals would be enough on it’s own to help even the most highly strung person unwind.

The Restaurant

The 814 Restaurant offers exquisite dining while overlooking the rugged Connemara landscape and scenic mountain views. The restaurant takes it’s name from the mountain Mweelrea, Connacht’s highest peak at 814 metres, and the focal point of the restaurants well designed panoramic views. Located on the second floor, just above the hotel’s lobby, the restaurant boasts full length windows, opening up on to a roof top terrace, overlooking the Connemara mountains. The restaurant doesn’t just accommodate for all dietary needs and request, but offers up multiple choices for all and provides a dining experience to remember. Both vegetarian and vegan options were outstanding in presentation and taste, there were no corners cut at 814. Breakfast is also  served in 814, offering a selection of cereals, fruit, bread and pastries as well as hot food, full Irish, smoked fish selections and pancakes.

Why you should visit & stay at Delphi Adventure Resort…

Whether you’re looking for a bit of adventure or a quite break, a family holiday or a couples escape, Delphi Resort has got everything you need under one roof, and stretched out among the Connemara countryside. While it’s a bit of a drive to get there, it’s worth it and the views on the way there will take your breath away. Delphi is the perfect location to relax, unwind and reconnect with loved ones in this busy and media driven world in which we live today. Leave the laptop at home, pack some comfy walking gear and spend some time exploring the countryside, or just wrap up in a robe and steam away your troubles in the Thermal Spa. Delphi is an amazing place to stay and to experience, and I look forward to going back there again in the future…
