How to Achieve a Flawless Base with Estée Lauder

HOW TO ACHIEVE A FLAWLESS BASE

Find out how to nail the perfect foundation finish with Estée Lauder prep and prime products.

Happy Sunday! I hope this post finds all you lovely people well and that you are stretching out your weekend into the late hours of this hot Sunday, and not at all feeling Monday dread.

This week I have been testing out some gorgeous new products from one of my favourite luxury beauty brands, Estée Lauder. Last week I gave you some tips on how to Summer Proof your make-up and these priming products would be an excellent addition to the products listed in that post, to really help keep your make-up in place and give you a gorgeous healthy Summer glow, all year round.

If you aren’t already a fan of Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Stay in Place Foundation and Cushion Stick Foundation, then you need to get to a beauty counter and try them out; Double Wear doesn’t budge and is prefect for all seasons, while the original is quite a heavy and high coverage foundation the cushion stick version is a light formula so there is something to suit all preferences. Another reason I love Double Wear for the Summer is that the foundation has an SPF 10, which is extra protection for my skin. However, all the products featured in this post work equally well with other foundations (I have tested them with MAC, L’oreal and NARS) so feel free to mix them into your own routine and make them work for you!

Step 1:

Prep the Skin

A good foundation routine should always start with proper skincare. In the mornings I alternate different skin treatments and masks to make sure that my skin is always looked after before I apply any products on top; clean, hydrated skin also helps your make-up last longer as the skin is less likely to produce excess oils if it is already hydrated.

Estée Lauder’s NEW Double Wear 3 Minute Priming Moisture Mask is a quick and easy skin treatment to do in the mornings; it only takes seconds to put on and 3 minutes to work it’s magic, that’s the same amount of time it takes for your kettle to boil! The great thing about a sheet mask is there’s no need to wash it off after, simply peel away the sheet and massage in the excess serum and your skin is prepped and ready to go.

Step 2:

Primer

Now that your skin is moisturised and soft, the next step is to apply a primer. Estée Lauder’s NEW The Smoother Universal Perfecting Primer is enriched with technologically advanced formulas and skin perfecting ingredients that create a flawless canvas for picture-perfect make-up application.

The easiest way to apply a primer is with your fingers, simply massage the primer over your face until you achieve a smooth finish. An alternative way to use a primer is to mix it in with your foundation to create a lighter formula and finish, which is perfect if your regular foundation can feel a bit heavy for summer wear.

Step 3:

Apply Foundation

There are many different recommended means of foundation application out there, but in the end I think it’s all down to skill level and personal preference. For me, I find a beauty sponge, like the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, to provide quick and fuss-free application which is ideal in the mornings, as you don’t want to have to think too much about buffing and blending.

Add a pump or two of foundation to the back of your hand, then use your fore-finger to dot it around your face. Using a slightly dampened beauty sponge, gently pat the foundation to evenly distribute and blend.

Step 4:

Illuminating Finish

Give your complexion an extra added glow with Estée Lauder’s The Illuminator Radiant Perfecting Primer + Finisher; this iridescent cream can be used both under and over your foundation, either with your primer or as a highlight to finish off your make-up and help set it in place.

Personally, I love to use it both ways; I mix a drop in with the Smoother Universal Perfecting Primer and then after I finish applying my foundation, I add a drop to the back of my hand and use my finger tips to dab it across my cheek and brow bones. A little bit of mascara, a dusting of bronzer and I’m good to go for the day!
