A pop of colour, a subtle glow, a spritz of powdered scents; these were a few of my favourite things… this April.
You may have noticed a few changes around La Bella during the month of April too; one of my main targets this month was to set up a new and improved way for readers to subscribe to content and receive updates. Now when you subscribe, not only will you get updated if a new post goes live, but you’ll also receive weekly newsletters and roundups. If you want to join the list, just fill out the form to the right to start receiving updates.
On my recent trip to Ireland during the Easter holidays, I stopped in duty free to not only sample some of the new releases from Clinique and Bobbi Brown for SS17, but also to stock up on some of my favourites, and heading into summer I can’t think of a better range of skincare products than Clinique’s Moisture Surge. This time I decided to try out the roll on version of All About Eyes which promises to sooth and de-puff tired eyes. This is a gentle and refreshing eye serum, which is so lovely to use in the morning; it gives an instant feeling of hydration to the under-eye area, soaks in quickly and won’t cake under make-up, in-fact I’ve used less concealer this month since I started using this.
I received this enzymatic exfoliator in the Latest in Beauty Beauty & the Beast collab box and haven’t went a week without using it yet. Perfect for sensitive skin, the clever formulation ‘melts’ away dead skin without any need for abrasive beads or grain common to regular exfoliators, leaving your skin bright and radiant and will become a necessary part of your morning routine in no time.
Meet my new squeeze: the Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lip! All the chic and drama of a matte lip in an easy and convenient squeezy tube! My current favourite shade (living in my handbag) is Honey Bare.
If you’re looking for a unique fragrance that is special and sentimental to you, then the Library of Fragrance should be your first stop. I have been wearing their Baby Powder scent all month, perfect after a shower and especially comforting as it takes me back to my childhood. I also love the soft Peony scent too, and have been keeping this one in my bag as a pick-me-up scent.
You don’t need a ‘lip kit’ in order to rock a lip pencil; MAC lip pencil in the shade Edge to Edge is the perfect nude pink shade and will be a great match to a lot lipsticks of similar shades in your collection. Alternatively I have been wearing this pencil as an all over lip colour; it is long-wearing and surprisingly soft on the lips, just be sure to warm it slightly on the back of you hand to prevent drag when applying.
I picked up this lipstick a while ago in a 3 for 2 offer at Superdrug and only recently started using it, shortly after which I fell in love with it. I’m not usually a lover of a pearlised finish, but this lipstick is the perfect shade of nude, so mush so that it doesn’t look like your wearing a lip colour, instead you get a plump glossy finish, similar to that of a gloss but without the stickiness. This lipstick is definitely a handbag hero product.
Now that Spring is in full swing, I have been enjoying wearing a light dewy base and Nars Sheer Glow is perfect for just that. What I have been loving doing on a daily basis is mixing a pump of Sheer Glow with one of my moisturisers (such as Avène Soothing Hydrating Serum) on the back of my hand before applying with a beauty sponge for a super sheer, airbrushed finish that is wearable while moisturising my skin at the same time.
My sister turned me onto this blog earlier in the month and I have been obsessed since. The Minimalist Baker not only creates delicious recipes, but is a one stop shop for food photography tips and inspiration!
Loose setting powders can be dangerous territory in the drugstore make-up department, with most people opting for either Laura Mercier or a similar price tag, but I think I’ve found a good budget friendly alternative in Rimmel. The Match Perfection Silky Loose Setting Powder is a light, translucent powder which can be applied with a beauty sponge to easily set make-up, especially concealer, without caking or causing dryness.
I love, love, love this booster serum from Clinique! The Fresh Pressed Daily Booster mixes with any moisturiser to give your skin an extra shot of vitamin C, leaving your complexion bright, glowing and in the best condition it has ever been in.
I recently hand a conversation with someone where I complained about how many hand creams I had, but how I never carried them in my bag because they were so big and bulky. Then I discovered this perfectly sized hand cream in my favourite scent of all time, rose, from L’Occitane; another handbag hero of the month!
An old Clinique favourite that made a comeback this month, Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief is the perfect, soothing moisturiser for tired and dehydrated skin. If you live in the city then you’ll appreciate a moisturiser that instantly soothes skin after a day in the heat and hustle-bustle of city life. Extended Thirst Relief is also great before and after you travel to erase any signs of tiredness and to prevent the dryness caused by recycled air on airplanes.
I have been on the hunt for a good bronzer for a while now; while I still love Clinique Sunkissed I wanted something matte, that was subtle enough for everyday wear but still gave my complexion a warm glow. Bobbi Brown has a great range of bronzers, designed to suit and compliment every skin tone; gone are the days of orange bronzers, instead opt for a shade that will make you look sun kissed with a healthy glow. The shade Golden Light is perfect for fair skin.
